Trade Show Coach: Investigate Sponsorship Opportunities

Kara Heath: Graphic Designer on the Move

Gateway's Powerful Presence at the Downs' New Digs

The Trade Show Coach by Susan Friedmann, CSP

Investigate Sponsorship Opportunities

Sponsorship, in trade show terms, is still very much in its infancy, which leaves the door open for savvy marketers to capitalize on unique promotional possibilities. Some of the best opportunities include sponsorship of the press room, international lounge, speaker or VIP room, awards reception, educational programs, banners, badge holders, audiovisual equipment, display computers, tote bags, shuttle buses, napkins, and drink cups. Investigate these opportunities, but more importantly, take advantage of them. You might even consider approaching show management with your own sponsorship ideas.

Kara Hinze

Kara says there is "never a dull moment" at work and she stays just as busy at home. A self-described fitness buff, she can frequently be found working out at her gym or cycling all over Kentuckiana. Kara also stays active in her community working with local teens through a Bible Fellowship and by participating in charity events. In the picture above (with Senior Account Coordinator Pat Pierce, left) Kara sports a tee shirt she designed for D&M participants in a 5K walk for cancer.

Louie, Louie!

The Louie Awards are presented by the Advertising Federation of Louisville to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. The booths produced by D&M for clients Vulcan-Hart and Kindred Pharmacy garnered two Silver Louies at the Gala for their innovation in design and execution in the Trade Show Exhibit and Point of Purchase category. Vulcan-Hart’s Island Exhibit went on to win a District award and will be advancing into the National competition.

Vulcan Cooks Up Something New

Custom island exhibit When displaying product of formidable size, such as commercial grade cooking equipment, it is important to incorporate design elements that can balance the visual heft of the product without monopolizing precious floor space. The exhibit system devised for Vulcan-Hart, manufacturers of restaurant cooking equipment, utilizes modular islands to create a design that is both flexible and functional. The selling stations operate independently of each other allowing configurations to meet the needs of a 10' x 20' inline as well as a 40' x 70' island. The islands increase traffic flow by not obstructing the view or path of the attendees. This arrangement provides an organizational structure that allows prospective clients to find and focus on the products that best meet their needs. A light and airy exhibit would be no match visually against large-scale product. The Vulcan-Hart exhibit holds its own with vibrant red, strong structural lines, and oversized vertical posts. Tall logo graphics and life-size photos visible from anywhere in the hall command attention, and its dynamic design and user-friendly layout draw in visitors.

Kindred's Prescription for Success

Nomadic DesignLine 20' inline exhibit with tension fabric graphics

Kindred Pharmacy Services made the move from a 20’ x 20’ island configuration to a 20’ inline to streamline their trade show participation by reducing staffing needs and space rental costs. Bigger is not always better: by utilizing attention-grabbing design elements, the booth produced by D&M attracted attendees and generated serious leads.

With sleek styling and multiple “textures” of aluminum extrusion, warm laminate and airy tension fabric, Nomadic's Designline modular system was utilized for the exhibit. These elements combined with large-scale graphics, high functionality, modularity and portability came together to produce a winner.

Churchill Downs and Gateway: A Winning Combination

Custom interactive kiosks Alongside the multi-million dollar renovations, Churchill Downs has partnered with Gateway to use their latest technology to enhance the customer track experience. As part of their new CRM (customer relationship management) initiative Churchill Downs selected D&M to design and produce two Gateway Connection Kiosks. Debuting in time for the Grand Opening of the renovated facility, the kiosks allow Churchill Downs to interact directly with guests. Guests in turn, have the opportunity to experience Gateway's products from LCD and plasma televisions, to notebook and desktop PCs at the kiosks and throughout the facility.
